The Slow Agonizing Death of “24”

Recently the editors here at River and Rhett were copied on some interesting correspondence sent to Fox executives regarding our favorite weekly show on Fox - "24." We thought you our readers would enjoy seeing it as well.

To the writers and producers of “24”:

You are killing your show:

First, you no longer have an overarching plot working the full 24 hours, but a series of little sub-plots that seem to be only loosely connected … it reminds me of the old Saturday morning serials at the movies when I was a kid.

Second, you have clearly given in to political-correctness … no more torture of suspects being only one example …

Third, next to Jack … Chloe was your best character … I say “was” because you have totally changed and ruined her character …

Fourth, like most shows that can no longer hold its audience’s interest on its story-line alone, you have increasingly introduced sex into the picture, the latest example being that of the bedroom scene of the Presidential aide and the Russian spy … this is a sure sign of a dying program …

Fifth, and worst of all, we are now subjected to three love-story subplots … Jack and Audrey … the Vice-President and his aide … and Chloe and her whiny ex, Morris (who is about as interesting a character as Brussels Sprouts for supper) … I don’t watch soap operas, but this is what I imagine one would be like … Perhaps you should change the name of the show to “The 24 Hours of Our Lives” …

In short, I used to eagerly anticipate your show, but it is now more of an afterthought in which I am increasingly disinterested and disappointed. Please note also that most all of my friends feel the same.

Good points Mel - and Chloe is becoming whiny too. And it looks as if Marilyn wants to be another love interest of Jack's as well.

Wow, another 24 soulmate out there. I have to agree with your comments. Instead of Jack being the OT Joshua like leader, he has being slowly neutered into a regular guy. Oh well, whenever I get bored with 24, there's always Judges to read to get my fill of action.
