Sabbath at Second

Today, the people of Second Church enjoyed the preaching of the good "Bishop of Simpsonville," Carl Robbins. Sermon should be up here tomorrow. Carl preached on an interesting "I Am" passage in Matthew 11:29 this morning and throughly encouraged the people to emulate the gentleness of the Savior.

It's a real blessing to have Carl as a leader within Calvary Presbytery and quite a treat to have him ably fill our pulpit as Second Church expectantly awaits the arrival and installation of our 12th Senior Minister, the Rev. Richard Davis Phillips this summer.

Carl reminded us of the verse within the marvelous hymn often connected with John Calvin and Geneva; "I Greet Thee, Who My Sure Redeemer Art" that speaks of Christ's perfect gentleness.

Thou hast the true and perfect gentleness,
no harshness hast thou and no bitterness:
make us to taste the sweet grace found in thee
and ever stay in thy sweet unity
.
